Some comments:
I have WoW to caricature for my taste. I've been playing LOTRO Closed Beta in 2006.
I found the distances crazy in WoW. Also approved for the trip, you can easily spend 45 minutes to get from point A to point F.
LotRO WoW is not modeled as mechanics so different.
If your brother is a hardcore gamer, you might be better than WoW. WoW has been around a long time and now has more content than LOTRO. If it's a casual guy who plays only a few hours one of them is a good choice in terms of content.
